About the book
What must change in a person before spiritual knowledge becomes more than an ambition? In the Outer Court collects five lectures that Annie Besant delivered at the Blavatsky Lodge in London in August 1895, on purification, thought control, the building of character, spiritual alchemy and the threshold of initiation.
Its mountain, Temple and threshold are images within Besant’s argument about spiritual preparation, not the setting of a story. Her accounts of initiation and unseen worlds express her Theosophical beliefs and are presented here for historical and philosophical reading.
This HIPS Books edition follows the 1898 second printing. The lectures are newly typeset, with vocabulary before each lecture and a reader guide afterwards, so you can follow the older terminology and examine the ideas for yourself.
